I am trying to use RAW images on Adobe programs?

I want to create an image gallery to put on the web in Adobe Bridge, but I think the images I have must be raw, as when I open them in Photoshop they want to convert it, but the image crops in size so that a lot of the image is cut out and the colour changes. I really want to know why it crops and chanegs the colour and how I can convert them, otherwise I will have to take screenshots of the imagest to make the galleries with! Thanks so much for any help!
