Is "Creamer" really a German name and if so, what does it mean?

My Dad said that "Creamer" did originate from Germany (I'm Irish, by the way), and a good friend of mine who could speak like, a dozen languages, also said that it was German. To any Germans here, is that so, and if so, what does "Creamer" mean in German?
